Mothering Far From Home
A free six-week online group for newcomer moms with babies and little ones up to two
You don’t have to do this alone.
A warm, welcoming space for moms who are raising a little one far from the family, language, and traditions they grew up with.
What is this?
Mothering Far From Home is a free six-week online support group for newcomer, immigrant, and refugee moms who are navigating early motherhood in Canada. Each week, we come together to talk about the joys and challenges of raising a little one in a new country, learn simple ways to cope with stress and overwhelm, and build connection with other moms who understand.
Who this is for
Moms who are new to Canada, including immigrant and refugee moms, living in Ontario.
Moms caring for a baby or child up to two years old.
Moms who are missing their village and would like a space to connect, share, and feel less alone.
Babies and little ones are welcome in every session. Feed, rock, or step away whenever you need to. There’s no expectation of a perfectly quiet room. Each week brings a little learning, a guided conversation, and one practical tool you can use while caring for your baby, so you leave feeling more connected and a little less alone.
Free for this pilot group. Led by Bisma Gulzar, MSW Student Therapist, with Mary Hugessen, RSW, as clinical lead.
What’s included
Six weekly online sessions (75 minutes each) in a small group of six to eight moms. Each week has its own theme: becoming a mother in a new country, what we left behind and what we carry, overwhelm and guilt, building a village from scratch, relationships after baby, and belonging. You’ll also take home simple tools, like a support map, short grounding practices, and your own wellness and connection plan.
Free for this pilot group.
